Facebook Live Setup Guide

How to connect ScoreCam to Facebook Live: the new in-app Guided Setup, the manual stream-key path, streaming to a Page, and sharing your broadcast.

Overview

Facebook Live works differently from Twitch. Each broadcast has its own link that is generated when you create the live video in Facebook's Live Producer. The same Persistent Stream Key can be reused across broadcasts, but you create a new broadcast event each time and share that event's specific link with your audience.

ScoreCam gives you two ways to connect to Facebook. When you add a live-stream account and pick a Service Type, you can choose:

  • Facebook - Guided Setup (beta) (shown as Facebook (Guided) in Live Stream Settings): ScoreCam opens Facebook's Live Producer inside the app and walks you through it step by step, all on one iPhone.
  • Facebook - Stream Key (shown as Facebook (Stream Key)): you get a Persistent Stream Key from Facebook yourself and paste it into ScoreCam. This is the manual path and usually needs a second device.

If you are not sure which to pick, start with Guided Setup. The manual Stream Key path is documented below for people who prefer to run Live Producer on a computer.

Facebook - Guided Setup (beta)

With Guided Setup, ScoreCam opens Facebook's Live Producer in a built-in web view inside the app. It automatically switches to the desktop version of Facebook (so the persistent stream key options are available), shows step-by-step guidance, can auto-detect your stream key with a Detect button, and notices when you tap Facebook's Go Live. It all happens on one iPhone, with no second device needed.

Choose Guided Setup

Add a live-stream account, set Service Type to Facebook - Guided Setup (beta), and start the setup. ScoreCam opens Facebook's Live Producer in the in-app web view and loads the desktop version for you.

Follow the in-app steps

Sign in to Facebook if asked, then follow the on-screen guidance: tap Set up live video, under Select a video source tap Streaming Software, then open Advanced settings and turn on Use a persistent stream key. The persistent key matters because standard keys are single-use and expire after one broadcast.

Detect (or paste) your stream key

Tap Detect to have ScoreCam read the stream key from the Live Producer page automatically, or paste it in yourself, then save. The server URL (rtmps://live-api-s.facebook.com:443/rtmp/) is already pre-filled.

Start streaming, then Go Live

Start the stream in ScoreCam. Once Facebook sees your incoming video, tap Facebook's Go Live in the in-app Live Producer. ScoreCam detects when you tap it, so the whole flow stays on your iPhone.

Guided Setup handles the desktop-mode switch for you inside the app, so you do not need Safari's Request Desktop Website trick and you do not need a second device. Those are only needed for the manual Stream Key path below.

Facebook - Stream Key (manual path)

This is the alternative Facebook - Stream Key path. You get a Persistent Stream Key from Facebook's Live Producer yourself and paste it into ScoreCam. Choose this if you prefer to run Live Producer on a computer. If you would rather stay on one iPhone, use Guided Setup instead.

Open Live Producer

Go to facebook.com/live/producer in a browser (sign in first). Alternatively, tap What's on your mind? on facebook.com → Live Video.

On an iPhone (manual path only): the persistent stream key option only appears on the desktop version of Facebook. In Safari, tap the Page Menu button at the left end of the address bar, tap the More button, then tap Request Desktop Website. Apple explains this, and how to always load the desktop version of a site, in Customize your Safari settings. (Guided Setup does this desktop switch for you inside the app, so you can skip this.)

Create a Live Video

Click Create live video, then select Streaming software (or Use stream key) from the connection options.

Copy the Stream Key

The Server URL (rtmps://live-api-s.facebook.com:443/rtmp/) and Stream Key are shown. Copy the stream key and paste it into ScoreCam. The server URL is already pre-filled in ScoreCam.

Enable Persistent Stream Key

On the same screen, open Advanced settings and turn on Use a persistent stream key. This ensures the same key works for all future streams. Without it, Facebook generates a new key after each stream ends because standard keys are single-use and expire.

Things to Know

  • The server URL is pre-filled in ScoreCam, so you only need to paste the stream key.
  • Turn on Use a persistent stream key (under Advanced settings). Without it, Facebook generates a new key after each stream ends because standard keys are single-use and expire, and you will need to return here to get a fresh one every time.
  • Check the audience selector on the Producer page before going live. The default depends on your account type and history. Set it to Only me for testing, or Public if you want anyone to be able to watch.
  • To stream to a Facebook Page instead of your personal profile, switch to that Page using the account switcher (top-right avatar) before opening the Producer.
  • Your account must be in good standing. Recent community violations can temporarily block live streaming access.

Going Live from ScoreCam

The steps below cover the manual Stream Key path. With this path, ScoreCam only sends your video (with the scoreboard) to Facebook. It does not open Facebook Live Producer and shows no “Go Live” or caption screen inside the app, so you start and caption the broadcast on Facebook's Live Producer web page. Facebook's Go Live button only becomes active once it detects your incoming video, so the order matters. If you used Guided Setup instead, Live Producer runs inside ScoreCam and you tap Go Live right there, all on one iPhone.

On the manual Stream Key path you will need a second device (a computer, tablet, or another phone) signed in to Facebook. ScoreCam has to stay open and streaming the whole time (if you leave the app, the stream stops), so you can't tap Start/Live in ScoreCam and click Go Live in Live Producer on the same iPhone. Guided Setup avoids this because Live Producer opens inside the app.

Set up the broadcast on your second device

On a computer, or another phone/tablet using Request Desktop Website, open facebook.com/live/producer, create your live video, and add the title/caption and audience. Leave the page open and do not press Go Live yet.

Start streaming in ScoreCam

On your iPhone, tap the Start/Live button in ScoreCam. It begins sending your video to Facebook. Leave ScoreCam open and in the foreground.

Go Live on Facebook

After a few seconds, Live Producer shows a preview of your ScoreCam feed and the Go Live button activates. Click Go Live to start broadcasting. To end, stop the broadcast in Producer and stop the stream in ScoreCam.

Finding and Sharing Your Live Link

Unlike Twitch, Facebook does not give you a single permanent viewer URL. Each broadcast creates its own link. Here is how to find and share it:

  • When you create the live video in Facebook Producer, there is a Preview link or Share option on the broadcast page. Copy this URL and share it with your audience before you go live.
  • Once live, the broadcast appears as a post on your profile or Page. Share that post directly using the share button on the post.
  • For Facebook Pages: your Page's timeline URL (facebook.com/YourPageName) will show the live video at the top while you are active, so viewers who visit your Page will see the stream automatically.
Share the link before the game so viewers can open Facebook and have it ready when you go live. Because Facebook requires creating a new broadcast event each time, the sharing step is more manual than on Twitch or YouTube.

Sharable Link in ScoreCam

Your Facebook account in ScoreCam has a Sharable Link field with a Detect button. Detect can auto-fill a link for a personal profile. For a Page or Group, paste the watch URL in yourself. There is also a Prompt to Share When Going Live toggle: when it is on, ScoreCam offers this link each time you start streaming from that account, so you can share it quickly.

Page vs. Personal Profile

You can stream to either a personal Facebook profile or a Facebook Page. There are important differences:

Personal Profile

Streams default to your friends list audience. The broadcast appears on your personal timeline. Good for sharing with friends and family, but less appropriate for a team or organization with a broader audience. Privacy controls apply based on your Facebook friend settings.

Facebook Page

Pages are public-facing and searchable. Broadcasts from a Page can be seen by anyone (if set to Public), making them more suitable for a team, school, or organization. Follower notifications are sent when you go live from a Page.

To stream to a Page: use the account switcher in the top-right corner of Facebook's website or Live Producer to switch to your Page before creating the live video. Your stream key may differ between your profile and your Page, so make sure you copy the key from the correct context.

For teams and organizations, streaming from a Facebook Page is strongly recommended. It gives you a public searchable presence, follower notifications, and a dedicated URL that fans can bookmark.

Other Ways to Stream to Facebook

Direct Facebook Live with a stream key (above) is the simplest path. You can also send ScoreCam to a multistreaming service first, useful if you want Facebook plus YouTube/Twitch at the same time, or if Facebook’s Live Producer workflow is awkward for your setup. In ScoreCam, use a Custom RTMP account with the service’s server URL and stream key; the service then pushes your feed to Facebook (and any other destinations you enable).

Restream (free tier available)

Restream is a multistreaming service with a free forever plan. Verified from Restream’s pricing page (2026):

  • Free plan: $0 forever, multistream to 2 channels at once, with Restream branding on free Studio use.
  • Facebook on free: personal Facebook profile is supported on free. Streaming to a Facebook Page or Group requires a paid Restream plan (Standard and up).
  • With ScoreCam: create an Encoder/RTMP stream in Restream, connect Facebook as a destination, then paste Restream’s RTMP server and stream key into ScoreCam as a Custom RTMP account. Start ScoreCam when you want the feed to go live on the channels you enabled in Restream.

Details and plan limits change over time, so check restream.io/pricing before you rely on free-tier limits for a game day.

Other multistream services

  • Castr: still a solid multistream / RTMP option, but it does not offer a permanent free plan as of 2026: only a short trial, then paid plans. Use it if you need more destinations, hosting, or pro features and are fine paying.
  • Other RTMP multistreamers (OneStream Live, Streamlabs multistream, etc.): same idea, ScoreCam Custom RTMP → their ingest → Facebook. Free tiers, if any, vary and often exclude Facebook Pages; always confirm on the service’s current pricing page.
Multistream services do not replace Facebook’s own rules (account age, Page follower minimums, Live Producer / Go Live where required). They only relay your ScoreCam feed. Prefer a Facebook Page for teams when your multistream plan supports it.
